The 2019 Jerez Test, officially known as the 2019 Pre-Season Test 1, was the opening test of the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship, staged at the Circuito de Jerez in Spain between the 26 and 28 February 2019.[1] The test would be the first official days of running for the F2 field of 2019, with all ten teams and twenty drivers appearing.[1]
F2 rookie Mick Schumacher would end the test with the fastest time, recording a 1:24.028 midway through the third and final day of running at Jerez.[2] It would also be a productive three days for the German racer, who clocked up 199 laps in his Prema having lapped faster than teammate Sean Gelael throughout the test.[2]
In terms of outright distance, however, it was Nyck de Vries who was busiest for ART Grand Prix, completing 260 tours of Jerez in eighteen hours of running.[2] Furthermore, de Vries, and new teammate Nikita Mazepin would ensure that the two ARTs topped the table for teams as well, with 486 laps between the two drivers.[2]
Background[]
The Circuito de Jerez would host the first test of the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship, marking the series' first return to the circuit since the 2017 campaign.[3] Indeed, while F2's parent series, Formula One, tested at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Jerez would see the class of 2019 put their equipment through its paces for the first time, ahead of the first race in Bahrain.[3] Furthermore, with no other series testing at Jerez F2 would have three full days of running, with six hours of testing scheduled for each of the three days.[3]
