Arjun Maini (born 10 December 1997) is an Indian racing driver, currently competing with Trident in the 2018 FIA Formula Two Championship.[1] Maini arrived in F2 from the GP3 Series, and with support from the Haas F1 Team as a development driver.[2]

Background

Maini's career began in karting in 2007, with the youngster setting new records in his native India for largely for his success at a young age.[1] 2014 would see Maini make his debut in a racing car, fighting with teammate George Russell for the crown in the BRDC Formula 4 championship, ultimately missing out by three points.[1] For 2015 Maini would move to the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand, while also securing a seat in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship.[1]

European Dreams

Maini impressed in the Toyota Racing Series, ending that campaign fourth, although he would struggle in F3, only taking a handful of points finishes.[1] Regardless, Maini secured a second season in F3 for 2016, only to quit mid-season to join the GP3 Series with Jenzer Motorsport.[1] A strong maiden campaign, despite missing two races, saw Maini get a second season in GP3 for 2017, with the Indian racer claiming his first win in GP3 en-route to ninth at the end of the season.[1]

That performance earned Maini a place in the Haas F1 Development Programme, alongside Santino Ferrucci.[2]

Formula Two History

Maini tested for Russian Time and Trident at the 2017 Post-season Test, before signing with the latter for 2018.[3] He was duly partnered with fellow Haas backed racer Santino Ferrucci, with the pair completing a quiet debut pair of races in Bahrain.[4] Indeed, Maini would have to wait until the Baku Sprint Race to claim his first points of the season, finishing an impressive fifth.[5]
