Maximilian Günther, born 2 July 1997, is a German racing driver competing in the 2018 FIA Formula Two Championship for BWT Arden.[1] An accomplished driver in the European F3 Championship, Günther arrived in F2 with a fair amount of expectation on his shoulders.

Background[]

Günther's career began in typical fashion, competing in junior kart categories in his native Germany.[1] In 2011 the youngster moved into the Formula BMW Talent Cup, ending the season in second, before taking a year away from any notable series in 2012.[1] Günther would return in 2013, however, with a seat in the ADAC Formel Masters, ending his maiden campaign in second.[1]

The Rookie Ranks[]

A second season in ADAC Formel Masters resulted in another runner-up spot for Günther, resulting a promotion to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship for 2015.[1] An impressive debut season saw Günther claim a maiden victory midway through the season, and establish himself as a consistent points scorer.[1] This translated into out-right bids for the title in both 2016 and 2017, although the German would be edged out in both by Lance Stroll and Lando Norris respectively.[1]

Formula Two History[]

Günther made his F2 bow in 2018, joining the respected Arden International team with backing from BWT.[2] The German rookie would be partnered with another F2 debutante in the form of Nirei Fukuzumi, with the pair looking to be consistent point scorers with the new Dallara F2 2018.[2] Günther also gained some backing from the Mercedes-Benz Junior Team, although was not formally listed as one of their members.[2]
