Meindert van Buuren Jr. (born 5 January 1995) is a Dutch racing driver who competed in one round of the 2015 FIA GP2 Series with MP Motorsport.[1] van Buuren would only get one start in the GP2 Series, after an accident in the 2015 Monza Feature Race left his car too damaged to start in the Sprint.[2]
Background[]
The son of Dutch businessman, and part-time racer Meindert van Buuren, van Buuren Jr. began his career in karting at the age of nine, racing in his native Netherlands.[3] 2011 saw the Dutchman move into his first race car series, the Formula Renault NEC, finishing 21st in the series after missing the final round.[3] 2012 saw van Buuren retain his place in the NEC, while also competing in the sister Eurocup series, finishing eleventh in the former.[3]
A Variation[]
van Buuren moved to Auto GP in 2013, racing for the Manor backed MP Motorsport team.[3] Ninth in the Championship saw van Buuren secure a seat in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series for 2014, although a less then spectacular season saw van Buuren only record a handful of points finishes.[3] van Buuren was retained in FR 3.5 for 2015, but would only compete in half of the season's races.[3]
GP2 Series History[]
Post GP2 Series Career[]
van Buuren would not complete his campaign in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series in 2015, deciding to recover from his accident in Monza.[3] The Dutchman subsequently signed to race in a variety of touring car series in 2016, but would ultimately leave racing at the end of that season.[3]
